Introduction to GBA Plus

Youth fitness case study

Factor 1: General analysis (i.e. no consideration of gender or GBA Plus)

Information on healthy weights and sport participation in the Canadian youth population, without considering gender or GBA Plus, shows the following:

  • 49% of Canadian youth do not participate regularly in sport

Trend analysis also indicates declining rates of participation since the early 1990s.

Based on the available information, analysis of the data could lead to the development of the following initiative:

  • A proposal for a national awareness campaign to promote greater youth involvement in sports activities.

The information collected considers youth as a single population, in the absence of data disaggregated by sex, gender and other factors such as age and socio-economic status.  Consequently, the proposed solution targets all youth in Canada, without any consideration for diversity.
